Favorite hymns and lemonade

This was the scene at our church for Favorite Hymn Sunday. We’re meeting in our fellowship hall because there is some sort of electrical problem in our sanctuary. But, we served lemonade and cookies between Sunday School and worship, so everybody was happy. Or maybe they were happy because I didn’t preach this morning. Who knows, but take a look at our small church in action on this hot Sunday morning.

We’re in the middle of VBS

We do a community VBS with 4 other small churches in our community — 2 Baptist, 2 United Methodist, and 1 Presbyterian.  This year we’re using Group Publishing’s Crocodile Dock.  Here are some photos of the week so far:

Helping our neighbor

Today our local TV station interviewed me about our latest project — helping a man on disability fix his burned-out home so he can quit living in his tool shed.  Here’s the video that aired tonight on WSET, Lynchburg.

‘What we’re doing’ now on new pages

You might have noticed 3 new page tabs at the top of Confessions of A Small-Church Pastor.  I’ve added About Our Church , Sermons, etc, and The Abbey Church as permanent pages.

  • About Our Church is the story of what we’re doing here at Chatham Baptist Church, with links to media clips and articles that have featured our ministries.
  • Sermons, etc is a page linking to my sermon blog, Chuck Warnock: Sermons, etc.
  • The Abbey Church is the concept guiding us, and it’s based on the old Celtic Christian abbeys which served their communities as the center of worship, art, commerce, hospitality, and help.  So, poke around and let me know what you think.

Our new church website

Our new church website is up at chathambc.net.  A few days ago I posted 10 Things Your Church Website Should Do.  We’re up to about 6 of those, and adding more stuff weekly.

For the geek squad out there, the site is a WordPress template, modified by Nathan White of Bridge Vision Web Ministries.  I like WordPress — easy to add posts or pages, photos, or edit the page arrangement.

In the future, we’ll add more photos, sermons, videos, and a social networking component of some kind.  I just wanted you to know that we’re trying to do what I’m telling others to do.  Isn’t always easy or perfect, but we’re trying!
