I Wish I’d Known

I’m writing an article for Outreach magazine titled “I Wish I’d Known…” about things small church pastors wish they had known before they started pastoring. I need short quotes that finish the “I wish I’d known” thought. I’ll use these short quotes throughout the article. So, fire away in the comments , please!

  2. I wish I had known that “friends” in the church might not be so true.
I wish I had known what “living in a glass bowl” really meant.
I wish I had known how relationships could turn on a dime.
I wish I had known how difficult it is to help people “own” ministry.

  3. Chuck,
I sent it to all of my pastors. It was good to see you today.

    Blessings,

    Tony

In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being.
We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit. ~Albert Schweitzer

  4. I wish I’d known that the pain of people leaving the church over strife would be so slow to heal

I wish I’d known the importance of maintaining healthy physical habits to be an effective husband, father, and pastor

I wish I’d known that praying with my church is just as important as praying for them.

I wish I’d known that getting people to come Sunday morning was not enough

I wish I’d known that while church members are fine with a pastor being a sinner in general, they are not fine with them being a sinner specifically.

I wish I’d known the joy outweighs the pain. It helps me to endure the rough patches

  5. I wish I had know that the church isn’t, can’t be, and should not be expected to be the perfect family I always wanted.
